Fashion Trends of the Seventies

Jersey Dresses

The jersey dress (left) became a fashion trend for women of the seventies. Its design allowed women to wear it formally or casually. Jersey dresses were often worn to Discos and dance clubs due to the fact that they were comfortable, airy, and trendy. Many attribute the popularity of jersey dresses to the 1977 film starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever.

Bell bottoms:

Bell bottom pants (right) were a popular style of pants during the 1960s. They were so popular, in fact, that their popularity carried over into the 1970s. Sonny and Cher, a musical pair of the sixties and seventies, helped popularize the bell bottom pants style.

Platform Shoes

Platform shoes (left), also known as "disco boots", were an interesting trend of the seventies. Bands, including the rock and roll band "Kiss", were often seen sporting this interesting foot attire. Platform shoes were popular with both men and women, and were not an age-exclusive fashion.

Cigarette Leg Jeans

Cigarette leg jeans were introduced in the late seventies. They were part of a new trend that many refer to as "punk"- a style attributed to the styles and designs of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren.

The Three Piece Suit
