The Godfather (1972)
"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"

Picture
Francis Ford Coppola's film, The Godfather won numerous Academy Awards in 1972. The cast included Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton. The Godfather was an influential film of the seventies because of its unprecedented depiction of American mobsters. Previous films, of course, had told the stories of the lives of mobsters, but none had portrayed the "American Mobster" to be a psychologically deep and complex character. The Godfather influenced future films and television shows to depict mobsters in a similar manner, such as Martin Scosese's Goodfellas, and the 2007 hit television show, The Sopranos.

Don Vito Corleone's line from this film, "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse", is currently ranked second in the American Film Institute's list of the top one hundred movie quotes of all time.
